Vintage Original Police Whistle
Note - It could be WWII military given the faceplate stamping, but most of the WWII whistles I\'ve seen are all-metal. This whistle came from a family with three generations in Law Enforcement and was pinned to a presentation board with other personal police memorabilia.
Bakelite snail shaped with nameplate on left side (circa mid-late 1940s)
Silver colored metal insert plate says: \"Meyer New York Army Navy Equipments N. S. Meyer Inc. New York MADE IN ENGLAND\"Top part of Bakelite is stamped: \"The Acme Thunderer Made in England\"This model does not have the stamping on the underside like some do.
Heavy lanyard with shiny flattened links (unsure of exact year lanyard was attached, but it appears to be a uniform lanyard). The lanyard ring mechanisms on both ends can be opened. Lanyard is almost 18\" long. Nameplates on this era of whistles were usually aluminum or nickel-silver. This one has some oxidation on it but is relatively clean and appears to be nickel silver.
The wood ball inside the whistle is aged but is still spherical and intact.One neat thing about Bakelite is that it is easier to use against your lips in the middle of Winter. (Think of that movie where the kid double dog dared another kid to lick the frozen flag pole...).
Coming from three generations of Police Officers was pretty neat. Amongst the wear of this whistle the mouthpiece is especially worn and appears to have often been clamped between teeth. It saw use over the years!
Used, as-is. Worn. Has wear around mouthpiece. Bakelite has a chip near side emblem. Works when air is forced through it. Cork or wood ball is intact. See attached pictures.
