This is what I think is an inkwell with cut glass and silverplated lid. Made from high-quality glass and with a silver-plated lid, it exudes elegance and style. I am not positive this is an inkwell, but have no other idea what else it could be, especially with the type lid of the piece. It appears to have been reset. It doesn\'t have an inner pan that holds the ink and this is what has me puzzled. The lid and neck look like what a inkwell should have. The lid doesn\'t sit completely on the bottom ring. I can find no marks on the glass or silver top. There is no damage to the cut glass, only expected scuffing on the bottom from use. It measures 3-3/4\" across and 3-1/2\" in height. Very heavy for its size. Whatever the piece was used for, it is very pretty. Thank you for looking and questions are welcomed.
