The story goes- this item was hand carved by an African American man who worked for my dad in the 1950's.If I remember correct, there are seven faces carved on the stick, that are intended to protect the home.The stick or totem has repaired. It is difficult to tell. See pic 6 and 7. It really does not detract from the object.My mom also told me that this type of stick was written about or mentioned in George Bernard Shaw's Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God.
