The militia was the national police service of Ukraine from 1919 to 2015. The militia was founded on February 9, 1919 during the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, which was part of the Soviet Union, and continued to function as the national police service in independent Ukraine until November 7, 2015, when it was replaced by the National Police of Ukraine.

The body was under the direct control of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (known by the abbreviation MIA).

The uniform includes a cap, jacket, blue shirt, trousers and tie.

Epaulettes on the jacket mean the rank of a police officer - capitan.

The chevron on the right hand means belonging to the traffic police of Ukraine.

The chevron on the left hand means belonging to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

Award strips on the jacket show that the officer was awarded medals for 10 years of service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR, 70 years of the USSR Armed Forces.

A sign in the form of a diamond means a technical institute graduate.
