Interesting Navy hat, It is a USS West Virginia Submarine Hat , SSBN-736. The hat itself is seemingly like new with little to no wear or damage and appears to have been practically unused. It tag says \" New Era Pro Design One Size Fits All \" its patent pending; Made in USA... this makes this a fairly early pattern of this style hat.. my assumption is this hat dates to the early 1990s when the USS West Virginia was virtually brand new...

The USS West Virginia SSBN-736 is a US Navy Ohio - class ballistic missile Submarine. She was ordered in November of 1983 to be built by General Dynamics Electric Boat of Groton Conneticut. Laid down December of 1987 and launched October of 1989. She was sponsored by Mrs Erma Byrd the wife of famous senator Robert C Byrd of West Virginia. The Submarine was commissioned on October 20th 1990.

The vessel has had some interesting duties and assignments but most of which has been classified due to obviously it still being in active Navy service to this day... it has been depicted in a Tom Clancy Novel & on a history Channel Doomsday episode.

The submarine has now served continously for over 33 years and had a major overhaul and dry dock in 2013.

This hat is a neat piece because I believe it dates to very early in the ships service! Probably mid to early 1990s... this hat was acquired recently from the estate of a veteran of the Submarine. This is all I have and no name to provide but other memorabilia and items related to the ship were sold in the same sale!

The hat as stated is in great shape, no damage, stains or even really any active wear! The hat is perfect for a veteran of the ship , collector or family member looking to honor there relatives service or just as a collectible that will only go up in value once the Submarine is decommissioned!
