This pan has never been used. It has a tiny speck of rust, as seen in the last photo. In order to prevent cast-iron cookware from rusting and to give it a nonstick finish, it needs to be seasoned before the first use. To season your cast iron cookware, coat the entire piece with solid shortening and bake the pan in a 200-degree preheated oven for one hour. If rust develops or if muffins stick, repeat. In addition to seasoning, you must grease the pan each time you use it.

Wash in hot sudsy water. Avoid scouring. Scouring removes seasoning, which conditions the surface. NEVER use abrasives, steel wool, Scotch Brite, or other coarse materials.
