This Vintage 1987 Phrobis III Buck USA 188 Commercial M9 Knife Bayonet & Scabbard is in very good, clean condition overall and only shows mild signs of age and handling.
The blade\'s ricasso is stamped on both sides, \"BUCK 188 U.S.A. >\" and \"M9 PHROBIS III U.S.A. PAT. PEND.\" on the reverse. The \">\" date code stamp indicates production in 1987, the first year the M9 was produced. The blade\'s original factory edge appears to be intact and the cutting surface is clean. The original black oxide finish shows light traces of scabbard wear and use but no evidence of damage from abuse or neglect can be detected. Mild wear can be detected around the wire-cutter attachment hole. The crossguard is stamped with Phrobis\'s \"Dolphin\" logo. All other metal hardware is clean and appears to function exactly as you would expect. The green Zytel grip is also clean and only light signs of handling are present. The scabbard is in equally very good, clean condition and is clearly marked with Phrobis\'s logo on the backside. The original utility pouch and sharpening stone are both present and function as expected. The sharpening stone shows no evidence of use. The Bianchi belt clip is clean and shows no obvious signs of damage of wear from use. All nylon retention straps and present, clean and function as intended.
These Buck / Phrobis bayonets were only produced for a short time between 1987 and 1989, making them more difficult to find than later commercially produced examples marked only by Buck. This example would make a fine addition to any advanced US edged weapons collection and would be difficult to upgrade.
