CONDITION: As picturedtabs are intact on each sideMAINE\'S METAL TAG HISTORY:In the 1950s Maine stuck with the plain white plate with black lettering until 1956.The only difference is they added \'tags\' which people would put each year when the registered there vehicle.The state of Maine first started the tags in 1949 with just a metal tag that has the number \'49\' on it.The tags were made from aluminum because it was easier to bend.The tag years lasted from 1949- 1967. Each year was a different color.Some of the paint did not last on the tags and would peal off to reveal the aluminum surface.
