Antique Victorian Mahogany hinged box that looks like it was originally made for storing inside a Sextant instrument.We are not experts, but we base this on the shape of the box, only because it looks just like the wooden boxes made for these kinds of Navigation instruments.The box is very well made and in pretty good condition considering its age.It looks like the metal closure might be a replacement and we are not sure if the handle is also a replacement. It looks pretty old.The box originally had a lock but this was busted and now the area shows with some holes. Two other small holes are on the same side where the lock used to be but they are not affecting the looks much.Someone put a green felt in the interior which also was not there originally.The box measures 4 3/4\" high X 12\" on its longest curved side X 9\" on both longer sides X 3 1/2\" on the narrow side.The box is offered in its as is and as found condition.
