If you raise the carriage on your Smith Premier and peer down inside the type backet, you\'ll see a round brush. This handle fits in the center of the brush and would be cranked, bringing the brush up and into contact with the type, thereby cleaning it! When done, it was cranked the opposite way to take the brush back down into its resting position!
