An original vintage press photo of Louise Thaden staring boldly into the camera as she waits for the starting gun for the first women-only air race in the United States, the 1929 Women\'s Air Derby. The caption reads: \"FEMININE FLYERS TAKE-OFF FOR AIR DERBY. Miss Louise Thaden of Pittsburgh in her Travelair plane waiting for the starting gun in the first all-women\'s transcontintental air derby from Clover Field, Santa Monica, Calif. to Cleveland.\" The photo is about 6 1/2\" x 8 1/2\". Good condition with some minor wrinkling and a slightly bent corner. Various backstamps and notes on the back. A superb piece of history and a worthy upgrade to any collection.
