"JAMESTOWN, VIRGINIA

Princess Pocahontas begs the life of Captain John Smith, who had been sentenced to death by King Powhatan. From the 1624 edition of Smith's Map of Virginia.

The border shows: the ships which brought the colonists to Jamestown in 1607; the old church tower at Jamestown; the Moore House at Yorktown where Articles of Capitulation were drafted; Washington firing the first cannon at the siege of Yorktown; the Capitol and Governor's Palace at Williamsburg.
