Calabash bowls are handmade throughout Amazonia (Amazon Rainforest) etched and colored with stunning designs which are used in everyday life.

Totumo, also called Tapara, is the fruit

of the calabash tree grown native to South America, which can either be harvested young and used as a vegetable, or harvested mature to be dried, decorated and used as a container, bowl, utensil, music instrument, pipe, jewelery and more.

Before engraving, the whole mature fruit is dried and colored with a vegetable dye and natural color of the calabash to reappear.

The vegetable color is food safe, durable non-toxic and tasteless and has been used by natives since ancient times.

Calabash bowls make a special gift as they are ideal for ceremonies, but also practical for every day use.

These unique bowls are handmade by the local artisians in Peru, Brazil and Equador from an ideal sustainable, natural source and helps support local communities.
