Volupte Powder Compact that belonged to my mother. After many years in my possession, it is time for it to go to a new home. A rare and beautiful black enamel with gold colored metal brass(?) Volupté ladies powder compact featuring a lovely raised-brass or brass colored rose with leaves and even a tiny thorn on the stem. Designed by Richard Gaige. Interior has what is left from the original mirror (easily replaceable) and a hinged covered powder well. Marked VOLUPTÉ U.S.A.” on interior hinged powder well cover. Interior of the powder well is marked Leak Proof Measures 2.3/4” x 2.3/4”. There are superficial scratches in the enamel, but none that go all the way through to the base metal. Some wear to the enamel on all four corners, front and back. Vintage used condition - spring pressure closures work well, some surface scuffing and discoloration on the interior powder well cover. Compact may clean up well with the proper technique. I will leave that to the new owner.
Richard Gaige (1907-1992) worked as a freelance designer of exotic and very beautiful lid decorations on the compacts for Volupté before and after WWII.
