Previously owned 1930s-1940s Old Spice shaving mug, in good condition. No apparent nicks, repairs, nor chips (please see photos), was gently used, cleaned, and stored. Has some crazing, a bit of minor discoloration, a few age-related hairline cracks below the glaze and a few tiny scuffs or minor imperfections, particularly on mug\'s bottom, consistent with gentle, normal use (please see photos). There is a small bubble under the glaze on the side of the handle and a small smear of blue paint under the glaze near the rim (please see closeup photos), faint incised manufacturer brand on bottom of shaving mug. Unique for gift-giving or for adding to your own personal collection.Early American nautical / sailing ship motif, Old Spice promo item.
Nice and heavy vintage glazed Hull pottery, solid glossy white half heart-shaped handle with thumb rest, glossy white interior (please see photos). Circa 1930s-1940s. The Grand Turk sailing ship illustration featured in blue and the red \"Old Spice\" logo on mug. Made in USA.
Measures approx. 3.75 inches wide across mouth, approx. 3.75 inches in height.
Recommend hand washing to preserve quality of glaze and graphics.

These pottery mugs were made by the A. E. Hull Pottery Company in Crooksville, Ohio between 1938 and the early 1950s. They were embossed on the bottom with one of two different markings although the markings can be very faint or almost illegible.Old Spice Shaving soap in a mug was among the first products produced by Shulton. In adopting its \"Early American\" theme, Shulton selected the Hull Pottery Company to fashion the first mugs. These heavy pottery mugs with almost primitive looking graphics were designed to mimic Early American household pottery. The sailing motif added to the masculine Early American feel Shulton was striving for.[...]
The original Hull Mug was sold from 1938 until 1944. It showed the Ship Grand Turk opposite the handle. This mug originally came with 5.5 ounces of soap.Thank you for your interest.
