This elaborately hand-stitched mola is an example of prized folk art from the Kuna Indians of Panama.This large vintage piece depicts a man surrounded by what looks to be a very detailed thoughtbubble consisting of floral elements and geometric designs ~ perhaps a garden layout?It boggles the mind to think of the handiwork involved in a piece like this!Various layers of colorful cotton are reverse-appliqued and embroidered on to create the
dense patterns. Close-ups of the little dots show just how many stitches are involved in eventhe tiniest elements of the design.
Colors are vibrant and the cotton fabric is crisp and in excellent condition. Perfect for framing!
