$14.99

Visalia is a city in the agricultural San JoaquinValley of California. It is36 miles west of Sequoia National Park, and 43 miles south of Fresno. The area around Visalia was firstssettled by the Yokuts and Mono Native American tribes hundreds ofyears ago. When the first Europeansarrived is unknown, but the first to make a written record of the area was PedroFages in 1722.

When Californiabecame a state in 1850, the land that is now Tulare County was part ofthe vast County of Mariposa. In1852, some pioneers settled in the area, then called “Four Creeks”. Early growth in Vasalia can beattributed in part to the gold rush along the Kern River. Vasalia was incorporated as a townduring the Civil War and as a city in 1874.

This armory was the home of the NationalGuard of California’s Company E, 6th Infantry Regiment that servedthere from 1887 until 1907. Constructedin 1889, the it was located at West Acequia Avenue and SouthCourt Street. The building wasconverted to usage as a theater in 1914 and in 1928, the movie mogul WilliamFox purchased it for his Fox West Coast chain. It operated as the first FoxTheater in Visalia but showed its last talkie in 1930. California State Military Museums Program

All I could find on the Armory after1930 is an application to the city for renovation of the building so it muststill be standing. It is, however, onthis card that was published the “Benham Co.”, who was located in LosAngeles and printed cards between 1909 and 1915. This card is postmarked 1911 and is in goodcondition with minor wear and a clean, clear image of “Armory Hall, VisaliaCalif” The reverse has a message and is clean.

The colors on the card may vary due to the scanner settings and screen projections.Unless otherwisenoted, I use Wikipedia, Playle\'s and Metropostcard for research and try to be as accurate as possible. Corrections appreciated.
If this your card, it will be mailed promptly upon receipt of payment...... Free Shipping WorldWide.Thank you for your interest and I hope that I can help you with your collection.....
