The discovery of a gold and bonanza silver lode by 2 miners in Nevada in 1859 was the greatest prospecting discovery since the California Gold Rush,and eventually the Comstock Lode Silver Bonanza in 1873 with peak production for the Consolidated Virginia Mining Company in 1877, resulting in fortunes that contributed to the growth of Nevada and San Francisco. In 1877 the mines produced over $14,000,000 of gold and $21,000,000 of silver.An Original Consolidated Virginia Mining Company Report of Assays for the period from October 18, 1876 to March 5, 1877. The large 200 page daily report lists the value of ores in gold and silver in "value per ton" from samples from the various diggings, sluices, sills, car samples, mills, floors, etc. Each page has the printed "Comstock Virginia Mining Company Report of Assays, and all pages are filled in sepia ink. The hard bound covers are worn, with partial paper label on the front cover and the edge with gold embossed " Report of Assays Cov V".
The pages are in VG-Exc condition, the covers have wear and the binding is fair. Approx 14 x 9" overall, the report is approx 3/4" thick. I have had this in my collection for over 40 years.
