Vintage solid sterling silver (approx.1 3/8" tall with necklace bale and jump ring; weight approx. 3.3 g)Orthodox two-sided iconic medal pendant featuring a dog tag style design with image of the venerated icon of the Holy Guardian Angel.The reverse displays a hand-engraved inscription of the traditional Orthodox prayer in Church Slavonic meaning "Save and Protect".The larger soldered jump ring of the medal bears two punch marks, one of which displays the "925" hallmark indicating the "sterling" purity.The pendant has vintage or antique appearance withsigns of aging and wear that might include diminished quality of the artwork, deformations of its original shape, scratches, dents, and patches of discoloration/patina.Some of the original patina has been removed using gentle cleaning and polishing.The size and weight of the item are shown on the photographs for this listing.

The obverse displays an Orthodox icon of the Holy Guardian Angel carrying a sword anda three-bar cross, which is venerated as the true Savior's Cross in the Eastern Orthodox and some Eastern Catholic churches. Such a cross has three horizontal crossbeams: the top one represents the "INRI" nameplate, and the bottom one, a footrest. The footrest crossbeam is depicted pointing up, toward Heaven, on Christ's right hand side where the Penitent thief, St. Dismas was crucified. The icon is framed withan abbreviatedinscription of a prayer in Church Slavonic meaning approx. "Holy Guardian Angel, do not let a sly demon overcome me".

The Guardian Angel concept has deepScriptural roots: “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, andhe delivers them.” (Psalm 34 of David).Belief in both the East and the West is that a Guardian Angel serves toprotect soul and body of a person God assigns them to, and present prayers to God on thatperson's behalf.
