SPEEDOMETER HEAD ONLY; NOT A COMPLETE SET This is a nice old survivor from 1973, a clean and fully functional 0-60 MPH Schwinn Approved speedometer head from Huret of France, made in the original series from 1968 through 1974. This has had a full rebuild and is in full working order with a good overall finish.It\'s been disassembled, freshly lubricated, polished, waxed and reassembled, turning freely and ready to go. There is some flaking in the finish of the rear case behind the bezel on top(see Photo 7), but it\'s not obvious and not visible from the riding position. All chromehas been polished to restore the shine, and waxed to keep it that way. The original mounting bracket carriage bolt and nut were missing, so I have installed new replacements. As found, this was in its original box, although all the other components were gone. It is now back in working order, and I have added a new replacement hardware kit to help with installation. (You will need a drive hub that is stamped with your front wheel size, and a drive cable long enough to link the speedo head with the drive hub on the front wheel.) The original dealer\'s price of $9.95, written on the side of the box (Photo 11) dates this to 1973, its last full year of production before Schwinn phased in the Deluxe speedometer that added a Kilometers per Hour scale on the dial. They also began datestamping the rear case in 1974; this example is not dated on the back.
The speedometer head is 2 3/8\" wide, 2ΒΌ\" high and 1 5/8\" deep. It has a polished chrome bezel, glass face, and chrome housing, with white numbers on a black dial, and a bright orange pointer.There is no accumulated mileage; it\'s just passing 0000.1. This head can be used on any size of front wheel, as these Huret models are calibrated by the drive hub (not included), not the speedometer head. NOTES: - Drive cable and drive hub are not included. This Schwinn Approved Huret speedo head fits any size of bicycle; the correct reading is determined by the Schwinn or Huret drive hub (sold separately), which should be stamped with the correct front wheel size for your bike.
