HAND COILED AND PAINTED NICELY DETAILED almost a MINIATURE HORNO POT from San Ildefonso by world renowned nativeclay artist, " BLUE CORN ". with the classic black on black design and color palette. Hornos are the tradiotnal Pueblo style earthen bread ovens stil used today at most pueblos.Blue Corn was born Crucita Calabaza (1921-1999). The name Blue Corn was given to her by one of Maria Martinez's sisters during her San Ildefonso naming ceremony. She making pottery when she was three years old. Her grandmother told her that her hands "were made for pottery," which proved to be true as she made pottery for nearly seventy years. During World War two she actually worked as a house cleaner in Los Alamos for Robert Oppenheimer. In 1981 she won the "Governor's Award," which is New Mexico's highest artistic honor. She was posthumously awarded the 2008 "Lifetime Achievement Award" by SWAIA.
