American Souvenirs Inc. also known as “ASI”, suppliedmany of Disneyland's first in park souvenirs. It's an important, historic detail that has been a great help for manyavid Disneyana Collectors. The ASI story started with Cornelius Vanderbilt"C. V." Wood, or "Woody", before the Original DisneylandPark even opened. Woody was hired by Walt and Roy Disney aka the Disneybrothers in 1954. C. V. became Disneyland's vice president, general manager ofthe Disneyland project and Disneyland's first employee. He worked closely withthe Disney Brothers particularly Roy Disney and hired some of Disneyland'sother early employees: set designers, artists, special effects technicians, talent and suppliers. Among them he hired "Brett Smithers and BillVanburgh in the form of a contract to provide Disneyland with souvenirs. ThoughSmithers and Vanburgh had absolutely no experience with either amusement parksor souvenirs, they hastily incorporated a new business, named AmericanSouvenirs, Inc., and a few days later possessed a contract, signed by C. V.Wood, to be the exclusive provider of trinket souvenirs to both Disneylanditself and the various leased stores inside the park.... Woody justified his decisionby claiming one distributor was necessary for the "strictest control ofthe source, appearance, quality and design" of souvenirs...".
CONDITIONOverall in VERY GOOD/NEAR FINE condition. Bright colors, sharp and crisp graphics, edges are intact and without fabric issues, label intact, no discoloration, no stains, no fabric issues, no holes, and no tears. Minor discolorization from storage can bee seen at four locations near Sleeping Beauty's castle and Frontierland. Any distinctive rough (aka “slubby”) texture in many silk fabrics are from using silk fibers that contain natural bumps and lumps from the source cocoon. Silk fabrics, or blended silk fabrics and manufactured fabrics, are susceptible to stretching, or pulling, the fabrics apart and are more common than not. This condition is not visible, but may exist, in this example. Please ask questions and review details prior to offerding and thank you for your interest.
