It was armed with MT-LB armored personnel carriers.In October 2003, the 501st separate mechanized regiment was transferred to the status of a separate mechanized battalion on armored personnel carriers without changing the conventional name and became part of a separate mechanized brigade of the Coastal Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.In March 2008, military unit A0669 was removed from the staff of the Coastal Defense Brigade and transferred directly to the direct subordination of the Coastal Defense Forces Center — the Deputy Commander of the Naval Forces for Coastal Defense.In 2013, as part of the nationwide reform of the Armed Forces, a decision was made to form the 501st separate mechanized battalion of the coastal defense forces of the marine infantry battalion based in the city of Kerch. It was planned that the composition would include a reconnaissance platoon, and the companies would be deployed to 94 men. It was also planned to disband the sniper company, which was in the mechanized battalion, and its personnel was to be supplemented by other units of the unit.
