For sale here is a US WW2 1st Infantry Division Big Red One Painted M1 Helmet Shell. The markings are not original. They are, however, hand painted, and very well done. The shell is a front seam swivel bale with a heat stamp of 886D. The straps are khaki and have blackened brass buckles. I bought this with the markings as shown. I primarily bought it because it appears to be a near mint shell. However, this may have been completely refurbished with new cork, paint, and replacement straps. I am not sure though. This does look like a mint shell, but the quality of the insignia has me second guessing the shell. On the plus side, there is no paint smell. There is some liner wear inside of the shell. The straps are very clean, but the hardware shows some finish loss. At any rate, this looks great and would be a good filler, or even a nice piece for a reenactor.
