Born January 24, 1891 in New Brunswick, Canada.

Immigrated with his family on June 24, 1903. They settled in Middlesex, Massachusetts.

Prior to joining the Army, he worked as a Lineman for a telephone company.

Registered for the draft on June 5, 1917. At the time of registering, he was still not a U.S. citizen, but instead a citizen of Great Britain, having been born in Canada.

He enlisted into the Army on April 26, 1918 and was stationed at Camp Devens, Massachusetts where he was assigned to Company D, 301st Infantry Regiment, 76th Infantry Division.

A month later, on May 31, 1918, he submitted an application to become a US citizen. His commanding officer vouched for him. The application was accepted on June 24, 1918.

On July 5 of 1918, Private 1st Class Bliss Tracy and the rest of the 301st Infantry Regiment boarded the RMS Cedric at New York. They departed the US the next day and arrived at Liverpool, England on July 18, 1918.

After the unit arrived in France, Tracy’s entire division was redesignated as the 3rd Depot Division and the men were sent to different units of the AEF that were in desperate need of reinforcements.

Tracy was reassigned to the 500th Quartermaster Corps Detachment at some point before returning home aboard the USS Amphion, departing from Brest, France on August 23, 1919 and arriving at Brooklyn, New York on September 3, 1919.

From there, he was sent to Camp Upton in New York and discharged from the Army on September 9, 1919. His rank upon returning home and discharge was Corporal.
