ORIGINAL US CAVALRY McCLELLAN SADDLE TREE MODEL 1904, SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS THE SECOND PATTERN WITH THE ROUND SAFES FOR THE RIGGING.

THIS IS A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE OF THIS SADDLE, COMPLETE EXCEPT FOR COAT STRAPS WITH ORIGINAL COMPLETE RIGGING INCLUDING LATIGOS. IT WAS ISSUED AND SHOWS LIGHT WEAR, SCRATCHES, GOUGES AND SOMEWHAT WELL USED LEATHER RIGGING A LITTLE DARKER THAN THE RUSSET TREE. THE MAKER \"DUNCAN\" IS STAMPED ON THE ROUND SAFE. MUCH OF THE SHEEPSKIN LINER UNDER THE TREE REMAINS WHICH IS RARELY FOUND. IT IS CORRECT, HONEST AND UNMOLESTED FOR BEING 100 YEARS PLUS. THE HOODED STIRRUPS ARE DOUBLE PLY AND CIRCA WORLD WAR I. THE WOOD IS STAMPED BY MAKER \"SPAULDING\".

IT WILL MAKE A FINE DISPLAY IN ANY MILITARY OR CIRCA WORLD WAR I COLLECTION.

ALL BRASS HARDWARE IS PRESENT AND ORIGINAL AND THE STITCHING IS TIGHT ON THE TREE.

THE TREE LEATHER IS SOUND WITH A MEDIUM RUSSET COLOR. NOTE THAT MY STUDIO LIGHTS DISTORT THE COLOR OF THIS TREE, IT IS A VERY NICE RUSSET ORIGINAL COLOR. THE RIGGING IS FINE FOR A DISPLAY BUT STIFF AND WITH MANY SCRATCHES AND SCRAPES. THE LATIGOS TO FASTEN THE GIRTH OR CINCH (NOT INCLUDED) ARE FULL LENGTH.

THE STIRRUP STRAPS AND HOODED STIRRUPS ARE SOUND AND SHOW THE \"US\" STAMP ON EACH ONE. NOTE THAT THEY ARE MOUNTED WITH A HALF TWIST OF THE STIRRUP STRAPS. THIS IS THE CORRECT REGULATION WAY BUT CAN BE CHANGED TO SHOW OFF THE VERY NICE HOODED STIRRUPS.

THE LEATHER OF THIS SADDLE WOULD GREATLY BENEFIT FROM A COUPLE OF COATS OF YOUR FAVORITE LEATHER TREATMENT WITH SOMETHING THAT WOULD NOT DARKEN THE LEATHER.
