US Army Air Forces pilots flying in the Southwest Pacific and China Burma India theater during WW2 were issued the Type E-17 sustenance kit, consisting of a carry pouch, signal mirror, and two amber plastic "flasks" filled with survival contents, for emergency situations if their aircraft was forced down on land or at sea. This US Army AAF WW2 SOUTHWEST PACIFIC CBI PILOT E-17 EMERGENCY SUSTENANCE KIT POUCH is in good condition, with some fraying to each corner of the front body, a frayed tear in the top right corner of the back body, three spots of fraying in the left side panel of the body, about half of the OD canvas wire hanger support at the upper back body having torn away, some patina to the wire hanger itself, the name "Dennis" hand applied in black marker along the middle back body, an old surplus store price of "39¢" faintly hand applied in black marker at the top flap, some scattered yellow, red, white, and brown soiling throughout, and with some overall fading and age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the pouch is in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough OD canvas construction. Most interestingly, it boasts a fully functional dual darkened brass "lift-the-dot" closure front flap, carries sewn khaki canvas belt loops at back, and sports an intact darkened metal wire hanger at the upper reverse.
