. Found at low tide on the reef flat, Kwajalein Island, the Marshall Islands, 1967. You know, one of the surprises we got when we got back from Kwaj, was the small fact that we had collected precious few money cowries or gold-ringers. They were justsocommon, it never occurred to us that one day we wouldn\'t be able to go out and pick up tons of them---I mean, 6-10 shells in every shallow, six-inch wide hole in the reef, and that\'s all the reef was, shallow holes that stretched on for miles and miles, wow! And then the Marshall Islands banned the export of shells from there, so now the only ones available are ones like this one, from an old collection, huh!

. And then, to add insult to injury, money cowries arerarein Hawaii. So rare in fact, finding one could get you a mention in the Recent Finds column of theHawaiian Shell News... that\'s shell collecting!

. Anyhow, as the photos show,this extremely rare hybrid, (Moneta f. Annulus) of a gold-ringer and a money cowrie is a bumpy, gorgeous, glossy GEM,that somebody else found,not me,is a wonderful, rarely offered version of that beauty that will lookterrificsitting on your shelf!

As for normal disclaimers, we do the best we can with photos, but color is tricky, especially since cell phone cameras automatically lean towards flesh-tone coloring, (that\'s why so many of the photos of shells on show up with more orange than is really there, the camera changes the color, and damm if I can figure out how to stop that from happening, but I try, honest!
