Found live by a diver at night in 10-15 feet of water in sand, Lembata Island, Indonesia, 2019.I remember reading a story in theHawaiian Shell Newsof a lady who made a special trip all the way to Lembata just so she could go shell collecting for Victor cones. If I remember right, the trip included, besides the two days of travel just to get to Indonesia, a couple of flights on puddle jumpers held together with duct tape, (true story, I been on one like that myself in the Philippines, and let me tell you, it is amazing how strong the urge is to pray when you see the pilot adding more duct tape to the wing right before you take off!) and then a long trip in a small boat to the group of uninhabitedislands where the shell is found. And despite great effort, she foundnothingfor quite some time,(the shellis rare, after all) and just before she ran out of time and had to head back home empty handed, she finally found one. Whew!. That\'s shell collecting!. But,when you look at a shell like this, you can understandwhyshe went to all that trouble, they are one of the most exquisite jewels of theconusfamily! As for this shell, agiganticgolden version of the cone, (check out the comparison photos, that is a 42mm victor cone sitting next to this one,wow!) in fantastic condition for its size, with a nearly smooth goldenbody, perfect apex, amagnificentpattern, and a delicate lip, it is indeed the kind of shell that provokes people go all out to find one. And as the photos show, this is a terrific near-GEM beauty that willlookawesomesitting on your shelf!The ultra-perfect shell for a first-rate collection...
