UB40 are an English reggae& pop band formed in \'78. They have had over 50 singles on the UK SinglesChart, been nominated for Best Reggae Album 4 times & in \'84 were nominatedfor the Brit Award for Best British Group. The ethnic make-up of their originalline-up was diverse, with musicians of English, Welsh, Irish, Jamaican,Scottish & Yemeni parentage. Hit singles include their debut Food forThought & 2 USA Billboard Hot 100 #1s Red Red Wine, & Can\'t HelpFalling in Love. Both also topped the UK Singles Chart, as did their version ofI Got You Babe. Albums Labour of Love (\'83) & Promises and Lies (\'93)reached #1 on the UK Albums Chart. UB40 & the English ska band Madness,hold the record for most weeks spent by a group on the UK Singles Chart duringthe \'80s (214 weeks). Their line-up was stable from \'79 until 2008, when front-man Ali Campbell left, followed shortly thereafter by keyboardist MickeyVirtue. UB40 have sold over 70 million records!
