This antique tintype photograph depicts a distinguished gentleman who may very well be the legendary author Edgar Allan Poe. While there is no provenance for this photo and I cannot guarantee the identification, it is evident that the resemblances to the comparison photos are uncanny. It appears that the tintype might have been made by taking a picture of an older daguerreotype, and it is important to note that the photography studio was in Philadelphia, where Poe lived as a young man. Also very important is that he comes up as a match to his known photo under the PicTriev facial-recognition program at a remarkable 97%. A match that high does not usually occur unless it is the same person.
