Obituary from the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER born 1879 died1960. Charles H. Grakelow, 80, retired florist, former city official and past grand exalted ruler of the Elks, died Sunday at his home here after a long illness. He once estimated that he was a member of 107 organizations and other groups inaluding the Masons and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, (Mr. Grakelow was well known to a number of the older members of the Lock Haven Elks Club), He retired in 1957. At 21; he entered the forist business selling flowers on a street corner and became the owner of one of the city's greatest florist businesses. He served as director of the city department of supplies and purchases under two mayors but was unsuccessful in seeking the mayoralty himself. Mr. Grakelow supplied funds to help put 35 boys through college although he himself had never went beyond high school.
