Exquisite 19th Century French Empire Gilt Bronze Mantle Clock An exquisite French Empire gilt bronze clock, crafted around 1800-1805, boasting its original gilding meticulously preserved through careful cleaning. Standing on four elegant legs, the base of the clock is adorned with lavish garlands (known as guirlandes), a hallmark of luxury in French decorative arts. Adorning the base are intricately designed wreaths of stars flanking a poignant depiction of a queen granting her daughter permission to marry, symbolizing passionate love. Atop the base rests the clock case, featuring an enamel dial with Latin numerals, signed by P.F Rouchouze of Bordeaux. The clock operates on an eight-day movement, suspended by silk rope, ensuring precision timekeeping. Surrounding the dial is a captivating circle of roses intertwined with ribbons, while the inscription \"JE ME MARIE\" (\"I am getting married\") above the dial makes it an ideal wedding gift.
