What is Spode made of?Spode porcelain, porcelain introduced about 1800 in the factory of Josiah Spode and Josiah Spode II at Stoke-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, Eng. This hybrid porcelain—combining the ingredients ofhard-paste porcelain (china clay and china stone) and bone ash—became the standard English bone china.

These plates were hanged on the wall so these were not used as plates for food. There is a common flaw on all of the back of the plates like shallow chips so it is not deep. I do not know why it has this on each plate but you can see them on the photos what it look like. There are a couple of those on each plate but 3 on the Camel and Ostrich. And one plate Kangaroo has a light scratch short line which is shown on the photo. The Rhino plate has a chip at the edge of the plate on the bottom below the description of the back plate.
