19th Century English REGENCY Mahogany Veneer Tea Caddy

This nice mahogany veneer wood tea caddy, has a sarcophagus shaped body with tapered lid with convex shaped wood decorative top.

There is some areas where the veneer has come off. Please see all my photos. I have all sides, bottom and top for you.

Overall it is in good condition. When you close the lid, there is a little latch. Just push the top lid a little bit to the right and it will close just fine.

The fitted interior is intact including original lid for storage, perhaps for the glass or ceramic mixing bowl.

The key escutcheon is metal, however, I do not have the key.

This nice box sits on four round, bun type brass feet, they are all original .

The hinges are tight and the box opens and closes.

Due to the high cost of tea during this period, tea was a luxury item and needed a secure container for the storage.

Tea caddy wood boxes were the most common and the finest furniture makers were asked to produce these fabulous boxes, each of which reflected the cabinetmaker's finest workmanship.

This nice box is in good condition, there is wear to the inside original lining peeling a bit, and the left top of the lid has a little damage as seen in my photos. Other than that it was a delightful antique tea caddy.
