A rare and original, "1880s Turn of the Century Photograph, Handsome Young Man From Rockford, Illinois." It is an outstanding, period photograph. There is a decorative, embossed design around the photo. And the name of the photographer is in the lower right-hand corner. The photo measures approx. 5-5/8" X 3-7/8" (14.1 cm X 9.8 cm.) and it is mounted on its original dark gray Card Mount, which measures 8-7/8" X 5-7/8" (22.6 cm X 15 cm.) There are some interesting elements about this young man's clothing. Rather than wearing his "Sunday Best," he is still wearing a button up shirt with a wing-tip collar, plus a tie, but in addition he wears a comfortable sweater and and a work-man's apron. Also he wears a cap on his head. All these suggest that he was an apprentice or a manual laborer … maybe a delivery person, or worked in a craft such as wood-working. At the bottom of the card it gives the photographer's information: Jackson Bros., Rockford, Ill. Unfortunately any information about these photographer brothers is lost to history.
This wonderful photograph is in very good condition and it has a clarity that even a modern-day photographer could appreciate. There are several minor flaws though: three small spots on the photo, two small spots on the frame, and slightly or moderately bumped corners.
