A worn, though scarce and complete compendium of all 12 monthly issues from 1874 of the inaugural volume of this short-lived though important early American architectural publication launched by H. H. Richardson and edited by Charles Follen McKim who, writing in the introduction here, provided this invitation for submissions:

\"The editors […] hope to be able to do a little toward the much-needed task of preserving some record of the early architecture of our country, now fast disappearing. For this purpose they would most gratefully welcome any sketches, however slight, of the beautiful, quaint, and picturesque features which belong to so many buildings, now almost disregarded, of our Colonial and Revolutionary period.\"

The 48 drawings selected for plates here include renderings, floor plans, photographs etc... of modest to magnificent early buildings from architects (along with Richardson and McKim) including William A. Potter, Richard M. Hunt, C.D. Gambrill, H. Hudson Holly, Charles C. Haight, etc.... forming a stunning and vital early effort in American architectural preservation and documentation. Generously held by American libraries though surviving copies are scarce in commerce with the only other copy of any issue we currently see available online being a library bound collection of these same 12 issues missing 2 plates (whereas ours is complete) at an asking price 3x our offering.

Boards significantly worn and with a preliminary rebacking of the perished original leather spine covering. Top board loose and barely held in place by an aged, crude tape repair. Contents complete (all 48 plates present). About fair to good only.
