I stole this 3-foot-by-5-foot off the roof of a Taco Bell in broad daylight as a teenager in April or May 1998. My friends and I were waiting in the Taco Bell drive-thru line on lunch hour during high school.

There were four red Chihuahua flags flying on the roof -- a tie-in with the inexplicable Che Guevara/communist-themed ad campaign Taco Bell used to launch its new line of Gorditas, having the Chihuahua explain, "¡Viva Gorditas!" I loved the ads, as I was so fascinated with the Soviet Union and recently ended Cold War that my high school nickname was "The Commie" or "Comrade," even though I didn't actually subscribe to that political philosophy.

Anyway, the drive-thru was taking forever, and as I looked up at the flags, I realized I could (nimble young tree climber I was) easily climb up the electrical boxes on the back of the Taco Bell and try to heist one of the flags. So, with little preamble, I hopped out of the rear driver-side door, quickly scrambled up the electrical boxes and grabbed the flag pole. To my amazement, the top 5 feet of the pole slipped right out of tube attached to the roof into which it had been inserted.

I scrambled back down and into my friend's car, and we sped off back to class, with me holding the flag fluttering out the window.

But I never really did find a good use for it. My friends hung it in their dorm room, but neither my children or my wife have ever wanted it displayed in our home. There's no accounting for taste.

The flag has obviously been flown -- you can see little ripples where continuous flapping has worn away some of the red pigment. But aside from one not-quite-1/2-inch rip that's been patched woth superglue, the flag is otherwise completely intact and in perfect shape for display in one's home, office or place of worship.

One might ask: Isn't $150 a bit steep for an outdated bit of fast food advertising?

And I might answer: No, idiot.

This is a rare, rare treasure. Do any of your friends have one of these? No. How often do you even get the opportunity to buy one? Hardly ever. I might even say this opportunity comes once in a lifetime. The moment -- you own it -- you better never let it go. You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow: This opportunity comes once once in a lifetime (let the water hold me down).
