ABOUT THIS BOX

This vintage music box is a beauty and was made in Switzerland by craftspeople of Reuge. The scene on the lid is from renowned artist Francois Boucher. The three tunes that are played are from Rosini and perfectly complement the classic appearance of the box.

Lift the lid to start the world-class Reuge 3/72 movement. The mirror under the lid gives you another view of the amazing mechanism and draws you into the performance. You will see it is clean and shiny and it looks great.

The mechanism winds up smoothly and functions perfectly. It switches between the songs effortlessly. The music starts and stops (at tune end) via the front slider. The original Reuge tune label is found on the bottom.

This music box plays three parts from “The Thieving Magpie” by Rosini.

CONDITION

The box is in good vintage condition. It looks great on a shelf, but the box is not perfect. The finish is very nice with only minor crazing lines and some smudges in the lacquer finish. The lid sits slightly proud of the front surface. There is a loss of wood and one missing hinge screw. The overall structure is excellent and amplifies the sound perfectly. Please see the pictures for the issues and the beauty of this piece.

The musical movement was inspected and cycled. The sound quality is EXCELLENT— A+ quality. It is loud, smooth and rich with nice deep tones. There are a NO instances of resonance (chirps or buzz) that can occur in vintage music boxes. Please listen for yourself. Please see the video and enjoy this wonderful box!
