This is a polished piece of Burmite (Burmese) amber that contains a super rare, hard tick nymph along with a very rare Pseudoscorpion, a large cricket, 3 mites and a wasp all from the Cretaceous Period.

I very rarely come across ticks in amber. The tick is a nymph so it is small. These organisms would have been on the Earth at the time of the dinosaurs including T-Rex and Triceratops!

According toSecrets of a Lost World: Dominican Amber and Its Inclusionsby Rafael Jie Chiang Wu, ‘ticks are classified into 2 families, hard ticks and soft ticks. They are rarely found in amber. Normally they parasitize mammals, birds, and reptiles. They are annoying pests and some are disease vectors. The number of mite and tick species rivals that of insects, and there may be thousands more to be identified.’

Geological studies have dated Burmite (Burmese) amber to be around 100 million years old.

The piece itself weighs 2.6 grams with approximate dimensions of 3.2 cmlength by1.7 cm width and 0.5 cm height. NOTE: 2.54 cm is 1 inch.

Burmese (Burmite)amber is difficult to acquire and has been dated to be Cretaceous in age (around 100 million years old) and would have been sticky resin during the time of the dinosaurs.

When one realizes that this amber has been dated to around 100 million years old, it is something to see organisms from that time.

Please note that thesaltwater test to identify real from fake amber is not reliable. The saltwatertest claims that real amber will float in saltwater while fake amber will sink.

However, many ambersources or even specimens will not float in saltwater as their botanical(plant) composition as well as fossil inclusions are such that they are moredense than saltwater and so sink. I do not sell fake amber. My response shouldhelp demonstrate this.
