This is a fully polished, cabochon shaped piece of Burmite (Burmese) amber that contains a fascinating, super rare group of 8 millipedes from the Cretaceous Period. I do not think I have ever seen so many millipedes in an amber fossil!

Millipedes are commonly referred to as 'thousand leggers' and these ones would have crawled around when dinosaurs were on the Earth.

It could be fashioned into a fascinating piece of jewelry like a pendant.

The piece itself weighs2.0 grams with approximate dimensions of 2.3 cmlength by1.6 cm width and0.5 cm height. NOTE: 2.54 cm is 1 inch.

Burmese (Burmite) amber is difficult to acquire and has been dated to be Cretaceous in age (around 100 million years old) and would have been sticky resin during the time of the dinosaursand is being mined in the Hukawng Valley in Myanmar(Burma).

InDecember of 2016,a portion of the tail of a small dinosaur wasreported in a piece of burmite amber, and inJune of2017, a nearly complete extinct bird was reported in this material!

Please note that the saltwatertest to identify real from fake amber is not reliable. The saltwater testclaims that real amber will float in saltwater while fake amber will sink.

However, many ambersources or even specimens will not float in saltwater as their botanical (plant)composition as well as fossil inclusions are such that they are more dense thansaltwater and so sink. I do not sell fake amber. My response should helpdemonstrate this.
