A beautifully embroidered monogram BO adorns this excellent Metis sheet. It has exquisite ladder-work emphasising the top hem and running down each side for 29 inches to make a fantastic return. The monogram, which is worked in detailed plumetis is centred below the top hem and is 6 inches high. Sheets like this formed part of the bride’s trousseau and were sometimes given as wedding gifts. The monogram represents the bride and groom’s initials, so this may have been for Barbara and Oliver. It would make a superb and unusual wedding gift nowadays. This lovely long sheet could also be a fantastic addition to a guest bedroom either on the bed or made into full length curtains
