Vintage framed Hallmarked 925 Zion. It is 6\" x 4\", 0.5\" thick\"Land of Milk and Honey\" depicts an ancient time in the Bible and in the life of the Israelites on their journey to the Promised Land, to their future. The image of the two men carrying a pole with a cluster of grapes is inspired by the account of Joshua and Caleb in Numbers 13 and 14 in the Bible. Moses sent the two men, along with 10 others, to go spy on the land of Canaan. Joshua and Caleb came back and reported that the land was exceedingly good .... a land flowing with milk and honey. The Bible also mentions that they brought a cluster of grapes, along with pomegranates and figs back to Moses.Ben-Zion Weinman (Russian/American 1897-1987) was a painter, printmaker, sculptor and teacher. He was born in Stary Constantin, Ukraine, Russia. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1920 and settled in New York. He joined “The Ten,” a group of young artists, including Joseph Solman, who strived to create something new in art in the 1940s and it was during this time that he worked at Atelier 17.Ben-Zion taught painting at Cooper Union between the years 1943 and 1950 and during the summer session at Ball State University in 1956. He was a member of the American Artists Congress and United American Artists.His work is represented in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Newark Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, Phillips Collection, New York Public Library, Tel Aviv Museum and the Bezalel Museum and he received an American Jewish Congress award.
