Steam in the 50s VHS 1986 Original Green Frog Productions Jerry Carson Films:

Through the films of Mr. Jerry Carson, this program contains a bunch of locomotives which most of them have since been scrapped.

Engines featured in this video (the original 1986 editing before the 1991 rework) are:

1. Grand Trunk Western with U3B 4-8-4s, 4-6-2s, & a 2-8-2.

2. Chicago & Northwestern with Class H 4-8-4s, A Streamlined Class E 4-6-2 & non-streamlined Class E Pacifics, at some locations like Waterloo Iowa for instance, with a one shot look of a modern C&NW freight led by some SD40-2s.

3. The Mopac with 2-8-0s, & a 2-8-2 that also has a modern switcher in Union Pacific colors.

4. Erie with an unknown engine on a freight switching tracks which also includes a Norfolk southern freight with pre-merger units in the modern era.

5. Norfolk & Western with Y Class & Y6B 2-8-8-2s, Class A 2-6-6-4s, 4-6-2 number 578 that is still on display at worthington ohio, K Class 4-8-2s, & class S 0-8-0s. (This Segment was later used in Steam Giants Across America from 1996 with narration from Bob Carrera) Note: this is the longest segment in this program.

6. Baltimore & Ohio with T1 class 4-8-2s, a 2-8-2, & an 0-8-0 as well as a chessie system coal train in the modern era.

7. Pennsylvania with J1 class 2-10-4s, & 4-8-2s.

8. New York Central with the Mighty 4-6-4 Hudsons (this segment is in black & white)

9. Chicago & Illinois Midland with class H 2-10-2s on freight trains.

10. Northern pacific with 2-8-2 1715, 2-6-2 2457, & 4-8-4 2686.

11. Rock Island with P Class 4-6-2s (also in black & white)

And 12. An encore of more grand trunk western coverage with northerns, Pacifics, mikados, & even a streamlined northern that resembled vinnie in the 2016 Thomas the tank engine movie: the great race.

While these road names appeared in the original editing of this program, there are a few more road names that the cinematographer captured but was never shown until the 1991 rework:

1. The Milwaukee Road with a lone mikado on a freight.

2. Chesapeake & Ohio with a couple of Pacifics.

3. Erie with an unknown engine on a freight switching tracks.

4. Canadian National with U2B 4-8-4s, H6G & H6 4-6-0s, 4-8-2s, a T1B 2-10-2, & a J class 4-6-2.

5. CP Rail with 4-6-2s, a 4-8-4, a royal hudson number 2838, a 4-4-4 Jubilee, & a 2-8-2 that was once a 2-8-0 before it was rebuilt.

And 6. Illinois Central with 2-8-4s, 2-8-2s, 4-6-2s, a 4-8-4, 4-8-2s, & an 0-6-0.

Due to the fact that this is the really rare original 1986 release, the film quality is different than the 1991 update, & there is not a piece of narrative information throughout the show, only on-screen subtitles. Not only that, but the running time is different too. On the 1986 print, it ran for 40 minutes, while the 1991 reissue ran for almost an hour even.

The music however is very different than what you would normally find on every existing copy of this program from the 90s to today. This original 1986 print contains Rock & Roll from the album Toby Beau titled: westbound train, while the 1991 rework contains big band jazz to match the time period of steam engines in revenue service.
