This beautiful vintage kaleidoscope, from \"The Sea Parrot,\" is a unique and mesmerizing piece for any collector. Made of stained glass and hand-signed by the artist Sue Rioux, it features intricate and colorful designs that create stunning geometric patterns when viewed through the eyepiece. The kaleidoscope was created in the United States and is a wonderful addition to any collection of optical or science-related items. This is not your kids kaleidoscope, it\'s a work of art to be displayed and admired by all. Only a few will be able to appreciate it for what it is. I can see it in a private library among leather bound texts or another room that showcases exquisite works of art.I believe this is one of Sue Rioux early works. I have not been able to find another one like it, although they may be in collections around the globe. You can tell that she designed and created this work of art with her own hands. The wheel is obviously made by hand. It\'s not perfectly round, the glass is of varying size and the lead work holding it in place varies in size. A sure sign of the artists creativity and skill. I don\'t see any use of pre-made parts as in the newer works where it seems that frames and other parts have been prefabricated.
The glass used for the light chamber is a beautiful amethyst color with hues varying from light to dark. In addition there are three pieces of what looks like cylindrical glass canes in a light amethyst tone. The creation of the cylindrical glass canes process goes back to 1470 when Venetian artisans were moved to Murano Island.
Overall it measures 10\" in length, width is approximately 2\", height 2 5/8\" +/-. The wheel measures 1 1/2\" in diameter and 1 1/4\" in width. All measurements are approximate. The glass on the wheel measures from 1/8\" to 5/16 in width.
This amazing kaleidoscope is signed; \"The Sea Parrot, S. Rioux 56/500\" and came from an estate of a wealthy collector.
