Staffordshire Essex Pattern Oval Deep Platter

18" x 14 1/2", c. 1879-1885.

Scalloped & fluted oval shape. Red transfer outline painted in imari colors of undergaze blue & overglaze orange-red & gilt with spare addition of yellow. Floral sprays & off-center wide red transfer printed diapered band. Gilt edge with considerable natural wear.

Impressed & printed "K & Co" marks of William Kirkby & Co., Fenton, Staffordshire. Godden mark #2282, "...impressed or printed marks...1879-1885". Ribbon mark with pattern name "Essex". Also impressed "I v o r y" for the body.

Lite wear. No chips, cracks, hairlines, nor restorations.
