BUSCH STADIUM

\"Sportsman\'s Park\"

Sportsman\'s Park, situated at 2911 North Grand Boulevard, held a distinguished role as the cherished home field for both the St. Louis Browns of the American League and the St. Louis Cardinals of the National League from 1920 to 1953. This historic venue bore witness to the triumphs and trials of baseball, standing as a testament to the city\'s enduring love for the sport.

Evoking nostalgia and pride, the ballpark, affectionately known by its original name despite its later moniker as Busch Stadium, became synonymous with St. Louis sportsmanship. Beyond baseball, Sportsman\'s Park embraced the excitement of professional football, hosting St. Louis\' inaugural NFL team, the All-Stars, in 1923. A second chapter unfolded from 1960 to 1965 when the St. Louis Cardinals of the National Football League called it home before the dawn of Busch Memorial Stadium in 1966.

A witness to history, Sportsman\'s Park etched its name in World Series lore, dating back to the mid-1880s and extending into the modern era. The poignant 1964 Series, its final act, featured a compelling matchup between brothers Ken Boyer of the Cardinals and Clete Boyer of the Yankees. The Cardinals\' triumphant victory in seven games not only marked the end of an era for the park but also prompted managerial changes, with Yogi Berra replaced by the Cardinals\' ex-manager Johnny Keane, a move that lasted only until early 1966. Both Series managers, native to St. Louis, had never donned the Cardinals\' uniform.

Adding to its illustrious legacy, Sportsman\'s Park hosted Major League Baseball All-Star Games in 1940, 1948, and 1957, further cementing its status as a premier venue for baseball\'s grandest spectacles. The park, with its grandstands echoing the cheers of generations past, stands as a poignant symbol of the city\'s sporting heritage and the enduring spirit of Sportsman\'s Park lives on in the hearts of St. Louis sports enthusiasts.
