In 20 years of Span-Am collecting and many spoons I have never seen one like this. In a 5 1/2" spoon it covers the entire war. Read the detail on this stunning addition to a Span-Am Collection.

In the bowl is an image of the USS Maine exploding with the legends - "USS Maine" "Destroyed February 15th" and "War Declared April 21, 1898."
On the front of the neck it reads "Peace Protocol Signed August 12th 1898.". The scripting is very elaborate.
At the beginning of the handle is a portrait of Admiral George Dewey with the words "Battle of Manila May 1"
Next on the handle is a portrait of President William McKinley with his name.
At the top of the handle portraits of Captain Sigsbee, Captain of the Maine, and Admirals William T. Samson and Winfield Scott Schley, with their names.
On the reverse of the handle a portrait of Lieutenant Hobson with his name. This is the officer who led a small team to sink the old coal vessel Merrimac in the mouth of Santiago Harbor as a blockship.
Beneath the last item in an oval an image of the crew of the Merrimac escaping and the ship sunk, with the words "Sinking of the Merrimac."
On the reverse of the neck are "Battle of Santiago" "San Juan" and "El Caney". The scripting in this section is very elaborate.
There is no decoration on the reverse of the bowl.

There is no silver mark, and it is likely silver plate. 5 1/2" long. Very rare.
