The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR - which existed in 1946 - 1960 and 1968 - 1991 years the center of Union - Republican state body engaged in combating crime and maintaining public order. The number in 1953 was 1,095,678 people [1] .On May 7, 1960 , a law was adopted abolishing the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs; its functions were transferred to the ministries of internal affairs of the union republics [9] .
In the order of the head of the group for the liquidation of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs KP Chernyaev No. 429 of August 11, 1960, the following was written: “First Deputy Chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers A. I. Mikoyan on August 9, 1960, on the report I submitted to the USSR Council of Ministers , in which it was reported in detail that all cases related to the liquidation of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs had been completed, and a resolution was imposed: \"Take note.\" In accordance with this, I order the work of the group for the liquidation of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs to be considered completed on August 15, 1960 \" [7]
The history of the union-republican department (NKVD, MVD), which almost completely controlled the life of the Soviet state, was interrupted for six years.Rare
