Red Banner Order ( the Order \"Red Flag\" ) - one of the highest orders of the Soviet Union . First of all Soviet orders . It was established as an award for special courage, selflessness and courage in defending the socialist fatherland. Order of the Red Banner also awarded military units, warships, state and public organizations. Until the establishment of the Order of Lenin in 1930, the Order of the Red Banner remained the highest order of the Soviet Union.

The basis of the order was adopted by the sign of the Order \"Red Banner\" RSFSR , established 16 on September 1918 the year during the Civil War by decree the Central Executive Committee . Originally it called the order \"Red Banner\".

During the Civil War, similar orders were also established in other Soviet republics. On August 1 1924 year was established All-Union Order \"Red Banner\", external difference which consists in the inscription \"USSR\" instead of \"RSFSR\" on the tape on the bottom of the laurel wreath.

All the orders of the Soviet republics, which produces the awards in the years 1918-1924 were equal to the all-Union Order.

Order of the Statute was approved by the Decree of the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR on January 11, 1932 (19 June 1943 and 16 December 1947 this Regulation was amended and change decrees of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR).

Revised Statute of the Order was approved by the Decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from March 28, 1980.
